A Prayer for a Busy Mind
Lord,
Your children’s minds are filled with the chaos of this world, which directly goes against all you have instructed us to do with our minds. Our guard has fallen, and we have lost faith in our authority to take our thoughts captive and make them obedient to your word. Lord, we ask for your hand and favor over our minds today. We pray that you give us the strength and discipline to withdraw from the things that pull our thoughts away from your words and truth. I pray against the enemy’s attack on the minds of Christians through social media, TV, music, and other worldly avenues. Your word warns us against conforming to this world's patterns of thinking in Romans 12:2. Please remind us of this scripture when we begin to fall into the habits of this world. I pray against the enemy’s attempt to plant seeds of fear, anxiety, worry, doubt, and worthlessness.
If only we could remember that our treasures are in Heaven, we would be so free to live in your perfect peace, even through life’s troubles. Remind us of Colossians 3:2 (which tells us, “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things”) when we feel as though our worth and value are determined by world success. Let us seek your word daily so our hearts turn towards your truth and thoughts about us. Your thoughts are loving and encouraging; they don't shift with our emotions like ours do. Open our eyes to the deceptive ways of the world, give us discernment to understand what is leading us away from you, and the courage to turn the other way.
Lord, we come to you seeking rest—the kind of rest where our minds can detach from this world and focus on you. Allow us to be refreshed in your Holy presence and renew our minds daily. As we sit in your presence, let us open our hearts and allow you to filter through our thoughts. Replace each thought that does not align with your truth with your living word. Help us to meditate on the truly important things and release the thoughts that are not. As we begin to draw near to you, making this time our priority, please bless our time with peace and renew our minds.
In Jesus name, Amen.
